 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now Offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class

 If you did not take the 221 service class, you won’t want to miss free class. Here is your chance to learn about the new notions and parts for your 221 Featherweight. You will have a chance to purchase the items shown at special discounts during the class. There is no charge for the class. The class is limited in size so preregistration is required. Serger Try It and Buy It
 Have you wondered about sergers? Do you have an old serger that you don’t like because it is hard to use? Come in and try one of the easy to use Baby Lock sergers. We are offering special discounts for this event. There is no charge, but preregistration is required.

Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Starry Nights – The Christmas tree or a Wreath panel are so easy to finish. Add the string of LED lights and you have a wonderful wall hanging. We offer a class to learn how to add lights to your project. You will need to have your wall hanging quilted for this class. We will focus on adding the light string. $10.00 includes the 2 hour class and instructions.

Turkey Feathers – Do you need a decorative quilt to set the holiday mood for that big family dinner? This is it. Using quick fuse applique techniques, you can make this in time for Thanksgiving $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Flying Geese – Using the patter Fly Away Home, you can make this quilt in one of several sizes and make a pillow sham as well if you wish. Flying geese look difficult because of the triangles and points, but with this technique they are not hard. Come take this class and see how easy they can be. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Rough and Tumble – Quilts for little boys are not something you see everywhere. Boys will love this quilt with its appliqued truck, train, car, dog, lizard, etc. Learn to applique and make something for that special boy to cherish. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Driftwood – The name makes you think of the blues of the sea and the browns of driftwood. Of course, you may use any color combination you choose. It is great for using scraps from your stash. Make crib or any bed size you wish. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Lined Tab Curtains – Do it yourself home décor is “in” these days. Some techniques are easier than they look. This class will teach you how to make an easy, beautiful tab curtain for any room in your living space. The lining adds life to the curtain, and filters out some light giving you more darkening when you want it. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Pillowcase Dresses for Charity – We are participating in this project to make dresses for little girls in Africa. All it takes is a pillowcase, some decorative trims, thread , and your time and ingenuity. We have the directions for you. Ribbons and trims are inexpensive and we have a variety if you don’t have much in your leftovers. There is no charge for this class. But we do want you to sign up to reserve a space.

Serger Gift Bag – Create a cute medium-sized, reusable gift bag for any occasion. Once you know the technique, you can change change the size to fit any gift. This project is quick, easy, and versatile – a great one for anyone wanting to use your serger more confidently.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew

November
Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Christmas Star - Paper piecing is used to make sure your points come out nice and pointy.  You can choose your on fabrics and not even use a Christmas theme if you wish.  We chose other colors for our sample a you see in the photo.  $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.
Wed., Nov. 5, 12, &26, 2:00-4:00
SnugglySnowmen - Warm and cuddly describe the feeling of this quilt.  "Ragging" the snowmen adds dimension.  Rag quilts also have the advantage of being "quilted" as you go.  Winter is coming, so prepare for the cold with the warmth of homespun and cotton.  $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Stocking Stuffer - The snowman and teddy bear give this a whimsical look.  You can use plain buttons or even some decorative ones to give it your own flair.  It is another project that is fat quarter friendly.  Of course you may find most of your fabrics in your stash of scraps.  $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

The Little Shepherd - Homespun fabric lend themselves to the look of this wall hanging.  Applique, some hand embroidery, and of course piecing are all part of this inspirational piece.  For those who want something that shows the meaning of the season, here is a chance to make a small piece that can be hung on a door, on a wall, or any of many other spots in your home.  $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Bobbin Works Tree Placemat - Bobbin works seems so scary.  Traditionally it is difficult to get consistency using decorataive threads in the bobbin.  Using Baby Lock's bobbins works accessory makes this project quick and easy.  The next project, Decorative Stitched Napkin, can becoordinating hapkins for your placemats.  $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.
Sat., Nov. 15, 2:00-4:00
Decorative Stitched Napkin - Make this napkin in fabrics to coordinate with your bobbin works placemat, or just make the napkins.  It doesn't take much fabric for each napkin.  The trick is in the folding.  $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

ConKerr Cancer Pillowcases - Help make pillowcases for sick children.  ConKerr Cancer gives hem to the pediatric units in hospitals.  If you would like to help, please come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate money.  We can supply you with fabrics for the pillow cases or you may bring some in.  We would prefer that you bring in your own machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine.  If you would like to make pillow cases but can't make these dates, stop in for the directions.  We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it.  Of course there is no charge for this class.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

Smile, Laugh, Giggle – Whimsical letters on bright cheerful fabric make this quilt a winner with youngsters of all ages. We made our sampler larger than the pattern, but you can make it either size. You can make it “pretty in pink” for the little girl who loves pink, or whatever color scheme you would like. . $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Hot Ziggity – Red, black and white make this quilt striking. IT is much easier than it looks. What a great accent piece in red, black and white, or any other color combination you choose. You can make it larger or smaller than our sample if you wish. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Tractor Races – Most boys loves cars, trucks, tractors, etc. Learn how to applique or hone your skills while making this quilt for that special boy or tomboy. Of course you can make this in colors to complement his or her favorite colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Jump for Joy –The cute jumping rabbits, give this a “springy” feel. Why not let it help your mood in the middle of a cold winter. Light or bright might just be what you need to get through the season. The pattern also includes directions to make 11” stuffed bunnies, similar to those in the quilt. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Shirred Shaped Valance – Spruce up you home over the winter as you customize a valance with your design features. You decide the shape and length and accessorize with cording or trim to individualize your valance. The teacher will help you from choosing your fabric (before the class), construction, and completion of this beautiful valance. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Kaitlynn’s Just Right Bag – This bag is large enough to hold your cell phone, keys, some money, ID, glasses, etc. It even has three inside pockets. It can be used as a small bag just by itself or as an organizer and thrown into your larger bag. It measures about 4” by 7”. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Crazy Quilt – If you think your serger is just for 4-thread seaming, this class will open your eyes. The serger is an ideal tool for quick and easy quilting, and it will put your quilt production on steroids! We will construct fabulous quilt sections using the “Mile-a-Minute” quilting method modified for serger. You will be able to use a variety of decorative threads, fabrics and stitches to add variety and interest. When you have finished the squares, you can learn how to construct the quilt with batting in one simple step. Finally, you will be able to finish the borders without binding.

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause.
We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call , or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.
