 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class




SEPTEMBER
Fabulous Fillers with Linda Hall – In this class Linda takes the person with free motion experience into learning more involved patterns. Maybe all you know how to do is stipple or meander. Wouldn’t you like to have a larger repertoire of designs at your fingertips? You must know how to pin baste your quilt sandwich and have some experience doing free motion. $85.00 class fee.
Thurs., Sept. 29, 9:00-4:00 with a break for lunch.

221 Featherweight Service Class – Do you own a Singer 221 Featherweight and wonder what you should be doing to maintain it? Would you like to be able to do a little more than just oil your baby? She will love you and serve you well when she is well cared for. You will learn more about tensions and how to adjust them, now to remove, replace and adjust the clutch, how to change and adjust the belt, and much more. $75.00 includes the 4 hour class and some supplies.
Sun., Sept 18, 12:00-4:00. This class is full. We will be running another one on Sun., Oct. 9 from 12:00-4:00. Please sign up now to reserve your seat.

Charity sewing for Kyle’s Quillows – There is no charge for this event. On Sunday Sept. 25th from 12:00-3:30, we will be hosting an event for Kyle’s Quillows. You don’t need much sewing experience to help us make quillows for sick children. You don’t even need to sign up. However we would like you to let us know so we can be better prepared. Come and sew for a little while or as long as you would like. We appreciate your helping us help others. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity.

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause. We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will even supply you with the fabrics if you want to help but prefer not to buy the fabrics. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call, or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

Embroidery Play Date –Patches – From simple to complex, learn how to make patches that not only look good, but look professional. In no time, you’ll be making patches for sports teams, scouting, clubs, uniforms, duffle bags, and jackets. Make sure that you not only sign up for the Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Scrappy Diamond Illusion – A light and a dark, or a light and a medium fabric, and a bunch of scraps will become a beautiful scrappy quilt. Here is a chance to learn Half Square Triangles. Some quilting experience is helpful but not necessary. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Batik Ribbon Twist – The pattern is called Batik Ribbon Twist, but you do not have to use batiks. Batiks have a certain look, but imagine this quit done in tonal cottons. It can be just as striking. Join us and make one of your choice of fabrics and colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Rag Quilt – Warm and cozy you will be under your new rag quilt. This is not difficult to make, even a beginner quilter or sewer can make a beautiful, warm rag quilt. If you have a stash of homespuns, why not use some of them for this project? $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Retreat Tote by Pockets-a-Plenty – Whenever you go to a retreat you need to bring quite a few tools and supplies. This tote is designed to hold all of them with plenty of pockets. Even if you don’t go to retreats often, you will find many uses for this tote. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00

OCTOBER CLASSES
Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.
Tues., Oct. 4, 11, 18, & 25, 2:00-4:00

Embroidery Play Date –Witch’s Shoes – Those wicked witches pop up everywhere…including your embroidery machine. This month we’ll be creating the cleverest in the hoop witch’s shoes. When they are attached to “legs”, they will be suitable for peeking out from hand towels or poking up from cauldrons. Make sure that you not only sign up for the Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

A Touch of Attitude – The accent color creates the “attitude” in this quilt. The pieced border is a nice added touch. It is fairly easy – There are no bias sides of triangles to stretch out of shape. Come join us and learn how easy this quilt can be. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Quilt as You Go – Would you like to know how to quilt each block as you go instead of putting your blocks together and then quilting? This class is to teach you how to take each block, quilt it, and then put the blocks together to get a finished quilt. You will need four blocks already pieced. They can be any style and fabric. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Catch All Caddy – You will fall in love with this caddy. It is large enough for the kitchen sink, yet small enough to tote around. Can you imagine 12 pockets? This is the project that you will be taking with you everywhere! $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Introduction to Thread Painting - Explore the fun of drawing and painting with thread. Using your free motion foot, fun thread, and simple appliques, you will learn to give your quilts dimension and extra life. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Lined Tab Curtains – Do-it-yourself home décor is very popular these days. This class will teach you how to make an easy beautiful tab curtain for any room in your living space, for that cabin in the mountains, or even a college dorm room. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Pumpkin Placemat – Celebrate good times with a touch of whimsy. Make these creative placemats or table runners for the fall season. What a cute conversation piece for your festive holiday table! $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles, formerly known as ConKerr Cancer – Help make pillow cases for sick children. This is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class.

Christmas Tree Panel – Learn to do Borders– For the quilter who is unsure about adding borders, this is the perfect class. Borders can make or break a quilt. Puckers and bubbles can be created by a border being incorrectly applied. Come learn how easy it can be to do it correctly. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Free Motion on the new Baby Lock Jazz
The 12” throat on the Jazz makes it a great machine for quilting. With its large "throat", speed, and good lighting it makes free motion on your quilts easier than on smaller machines.  Come learn basic free motion techniques. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Triangle Purse – We have offered a variety making purses. This triangle purse is both cute and economical as it doesn’t require a lot of fabric. It can even be made with fat quarters! There are no zippers in this purse- perfect for those who don’t like to sew them. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

3D Fabric Candle Ring – Don’t you love the 3D candle rings/wreaths you have been seeing everywhere? Come take this class and make your own! You can use 2 or 3 fabrics. And is could be a great opportunity to try out some of your decorative stitches. In Christmas fabrics, it makes a wonderful decoration, or gift. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Bobbin Works Tree Placemat – Bobbin Works seems so scary. Traditionally it can be difficult to get consistency using decorative threads in the bobbin. Using Baby Lock’s bobbin works accessory makes this project quick and easy. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Serger Gift Bag – Create a cute medium sized, reusable gift bag for any occasion. Once you know the technique, you can change the size to fit any gift. This project is quick. Easy, and versatile – a great one for anyone wanting to use your serger more confidently. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Quilts for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is assigned one advocate who helps the child through the trying times including the trial of the abuser, when necessary. An abused child finds love and comfort when cuddling in a quilt. Help us supply this worthy endeavor so every child who comes in for help gets a quilt to enjoy and keep.
There is no charge for this class. You may supply your own fabrics or use a kit we have ready to go.
