 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now Offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class




Serger Flatlock Quilt – Most serger stitches are done along the edge, but the flatlocking stitch creates flat seams. Flatlocking can be used for all types of decorative projects, such as this easy quilt. When the “ladder” side shows, the effect is similar to hand sewing. Combine the beauty of quilting, the speed of the serger, and the fun of this technique and you’ll have a great quilt in no time at all. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

July Classes
Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Glory Days – What a whimsical patriotic wall hanging! Learn applique’ and stitch in the ditch quilting while you make this fun project. You can use fabrics from your stash. Pick a few buttons from your button box and you have most of the supplies you need. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

I Love Semi Trucks –There are so many “girlie” quilts. Here is one for boys (and those girls who love semis.) Most boys love semi trucks. Why not make this quilt for your special boy? It is an easy beginner level quilt. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Super Quick and Easy Quilt – Never made a quilt but think you would like to? This quilt is perfect for a beginner. An avid sewer who has never pieced a quilt, someone who has done very little sewing, and someone who loves to quilt will all enjoy making this project. If you haven’t used a rotary cutter, you will learn how to rotary cut in this class. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Simple Table Runner – This table runner is quick and easy. It is a perfect opportunity to use a Wave Stitch if your serger has that feature. Or you can use a decorative thread for a different look. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Breezy Weave Bags – Weave fabric strips filed with stiff interfacing to create fun bags for just about anywhere you may be headed. Consider using one fabric, color, or shade (dark or light) for the vertical strips and a contrasting fabric or color for the horizontal strips. Batiks as well as 100% cottons work very nicely for this. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Cute Stuffed Bear – Do you know someone who likes cuddly stuffed bears? Make a fabric bear for that special person. This bear features movable joints so it can be lots of fun for children of all ages who like to play with their stuffed friends. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Cupcake Placemat – Birthdays come throughout the year. This festive placemat is a great addition to your birthday decorations. You can even embroider “Happy Birtday” and/or a name on it. It is so easy to make one for each of your friends and each family member. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Charity Sewing for Michael’s House – This charity is named for a man who did a lot of volunteer work with children, including going to other countries and doing free dental work. Michael’s House is a child’s advocacy center for children who are abused or neglected. Each child is given a blanket or quilt to wrap up in when he or she arrives. Blankets and quilts are so nice to cuddle into. We are now making easy quilts for them as well as accepting donations of fabric and batting to use in the quilts. If you choose to help us you will get a 30% discount on fabric and batting. Come one or both days. There is no charge for this class.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew

AUGUST CLASSES
Basic Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

T-shirt Quilt – Do you have a bunch of t-shirts that are favorites of your child or grandchild and want to make something with them? Making them into a memory quilt to take to college or their first home or apartment is one great way to do this. The t-shirts can be themed or just old favorites. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Baseball Legends –America’s favorite pastime is baseball. Now you can make a quilt themed for the baseball lover in your family. This quilt uses easy piecing and some applique. The colors are bright and cheerful enough even for the little league player. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Autumn Gems – Your fabric choice can make this very striking. The pieced border adds to its allure. Throw in the fact that it is easier to make than it looks, and you might want to make the crib size, throw, twin, full, queen or even king. This pattern is designed for 10” square packs or fat quarters. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Football Table Runner – Kick off the big game day party by decorating your snack table with a football themed table runner. The center of the runner is designed to look like a football field and is completed by a giant football at each end. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Shower Curtain with Organizer Pockets – Are bath time toys invading your shower? Here is a quick fix for a small space. Ad decorative pockets to the inside or outside of the shower curtain to help clear the clutter in the bath or shower, or to accent your décor. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Patchwork Purse – Women love purses, especially unusual ones. Make your own “designer” bag using your choice of fabrics. The pattern gives you two sizes to choose from. You can use coordinating fabrics for handles or purchased handles. This bag looks great in cotton prints as well as denims fabrics. Be sure that your machine can sew through multiple layers of your fabric. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions

ConKerr Cancer – Help make pillow cases for sick children. ConKerr Cancer is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class.

Disappearing Pin Wheel – You may have made the disappearing nine patch. Now it is time to try disappearing pin wheel. It looks much more challenging than it is. Of course you may use your own choice of colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Diamond Dance – Diamonds will be dancing in your eyes as you make this stunning quilt. It looks great in either cotton or batik fabrics. While it is not ideal for a beginner, it should work well for an intermediate quilter. Is it time for you to try your hand at something new? Come to our class where you will have someone to give you hints and tips. $30.00 includes two-hour classes and instructions.

Rag Quilt – An easy quilt, even for a beginner, the rag quilt features “regged” seams to give it a fun, comfy, casual look. The technique for making this quilt has you quilt each block as you go, making it great for any level of experience. It is often made with homespuns as they “rag” nicely. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Turn It Around -  Another easy quilt. No Triangles or curves – just squares and rectangles. One large print fabric and four solids or tonals are all you need for this attractive quilt. Let your imagination be your guide. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Crazy Quilt Vest – Even if you are not big on vests, this class will teach you the technique of crazy quilting. Adding your favorite trims and decorative stitches allows you to make something uniquely yours. Make this for yourself or a vest-loving friend. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Book Cover with Pockets – Fabric Book covers protect better and last much longer than paper ones. Why not go one better and add pockets to hold accessories? Using your serger makes this a quick and easy project. You will learn a bit about decorative stitches and threads on your serger if you haven’t tried them yet. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Sisters Tote Bag– Call it a tote or a handbag, either way it is a great accessory. Just think of all the fabric combinations you might like. Make it fun and funky, sassy, or even conservative. You will be sure to love it. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions

Stagecoach Valance – If you are interested in learning home decorating tips, this is a great place to start. This valance looks great In a child’s room, a recreation room, a bathroom, or anywhere a fun valance is wanted. Sew it in two easy classes. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions

Charity sewing for Kyle’s Quillows – There is no charge for this event. On Sunday September 21st from 12:00 until 3:30, we will be hosting a event for Kyle’s Quillows. You don’t need any sewing experience to help us make quillows for sick children. You don’t even need to sign up. However we would like you to let us know if you can so we can be better prepared Come and sew for a little while or as long as you would like. We appreciate your helping us help others. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity.
