 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now Offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class




MAY CLASSES
Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.
Fri., May 1, 8, 15, & 22, 6:15-8:15

Quilt as You Go – Would you like to know how to quilt each block as you go instead of putting your blocks together and then quilting? This class is to teach you how to take each quilt block, quilt it, and then put them together to get a finished quilt. You will need four blocks already pieced. They can be any style and fabric. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Well Springs– This quilt lends itself to batiks. Are you a little unsure of working with batiks? This class can show you that batiks are fun and can give you striking results. Make this in any size from crib to king. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Soft Whispers – A large print makes a great focal point for this quilt. Simply choose one large print you love and then fabrics that pull out the colors in your print. We will show you easy ways to do triangles. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Glory Days – What a whimsical patriotic wall hanging! Learn applique and stitch in the ditch quilting while you make this fun project. You can use fabrics from your stash. Pick a few buttons from your button box and you have most of the supplies you need. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Sister Tote – Make this tote for any of your many needs. It can be a great bag for many different purposes. Learn tips and tricks that will help you with other sewing projects. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Shirred Shaped Valance – A valance can really change the look of your window and add to your rooms décor. Learn how to make a lined valance with corded accents in this class. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Charity Sewing for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is “greeted’ with a cuddly quilt to help through the trying times. Please come help us make easy quilts for these children. You will get a 30% discount on all fabrics you buy for this. If you can’t afford to buy the fabrics, you can use some from your stash, or we will supply you with fabrics that were donated to us to use for charity quilts. There is no charge for this class.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

JUNE CLASSES
Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.
Fri., June 5, 12, 19, & 26, 2:00-4:00

Zanzibar – a different play on squares and rectangles. This quilt looks a little like disappearing Nine Patch in the layout, but is done differently. It is fairly quick to piece together. If you love Hot Ziggity in the red, black, and white, you can use the same color theme here. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Rough and Tumble – We are offering this class again because of its popularity. Little boys love trucks, dinosaurs, and just about anything thing that goes “grrr.” What rough and tumble boy wouldn’t love this quilt. If you are new to applique quilting, you will learn the tips and tricks in this class. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Diamond Dance – This colorful quilt is suitable for all skill levels and sews up quickly. You will be able to practice accurate 1/4” seams with the long strips. Mix and Match for a random effect. Try a selection of 8 different batiks or other bright and contrasts. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Button Bag– This charming bag features buttons as accents. It looks great in homespuns or your choice of complementary cotton fabrics. If you afraid of sewing in a zipper, this is done a little differently. Try our technique and be surprised! $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Stagecoach Valance – A valance can really change the look of your window and add to your rooms décor. The stagecoach valance is much easier to make than you would think. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Patriotic Place Settings 
made with your serger. – Make your picnic table setting themed for July 4th, or make it in colors to suit your décor. In two classes you will make both placemats and napkins. Our supply list is for four of each, but you can make more if you wish. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Destiny – Digitize a line drawing and connect them. In this class we will explore making an embroidery design from a line drawing. Then we will connect several of these designs using the Destiny’s camera. This class is free to those who purchased their Destiny at Pottstown Sewing or $10.00 for anyone else.

ConKerr Cancer – Help make pillow cases for sick children. ConKerr Cancer is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class.

Introduction to Free Motion Quilting with Linda Hall – If you have several or lots of quilt tops ready to be quilted but are afraid to try to free motion them, this is the class for you. Linda will teach you techniques and patterns you can use right away. $75.00 class fee.

Feathers, Vines, and Leaves with Linda Hall 
 If you have already taken one of Linda’s classes and are ready for more involved free motion, come have fun and learn how to do feathers, vines, and leaves by free motion. You will draw a curved line on your fabric with a chalk pencil and use that as your guide. $75.00 class fee.

Kid’s Sewing Camp – This level 1 sewing class is for kids with little or no sewing experience. Each child must have a machine to use. He or she will learn how to use the machine and sewing techniques while making a pillow. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Driftwood – The name makes you think of the blues of the sea and the browns of driftwood. Of course, you may use any color combination you choose. It could be in the favorite colors or a student going off to college in the fall or made to compliment any room. Make crib or any bed size you wish. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Modern Pop – This quilt is the perfect way to showcase large patterned fabrics by using a “popper” to narrowly separate each piece. You will be surprised at what a difference the popper makes. Your machine should have multiple needle positions in order to easily make the poppers. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Tractor Races – Most boys love cars, trucks, tractors, etc. Learn how to applique or hone your kills while making this quilt for that special boy or tomboy. Of course you can make this in colors to complement his or her favorite colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Patchwork Purse– Women love purses, especially unusual ones. The pattern gives you two sizes to choose from. You can use coordinating fabrics for handles or purchased handles. This bag looks great in cotton prints as well as denim fabrics. Be sure that your machine can sew through multiple layers of your fabric. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Embroidered bag – Make a bag for your shoes when travelling, for your Bingo supplies, for your favorite grandchild’s crayons, or whatever else you can dream up. Embroidering the name and purpose of the bag makes it so special for its owner. They are so easy you might end up making a bunch. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause. We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call, or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

Embroider Bandanas for CCK – Just bring your enthusiasm. We will supply the fabric, thread, stabilizers, etc. CCK is a camp for seriously-ill children. We are making bananas for the children to wear and take home after camp. Be part of this great cause and make a child smile. You don’t need any experience. We will show you how. Stay as long as you like. Have fun while helping others. If you have a Baby Lock embroidery machine, you may bring it if you wish. Feel free to call for more info. There is no charge for this.
