 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now offering Private Lessons.  Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you've wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $30.00 for the first hour, which includes an inspection of you sewing machine ahead of time to be sure it is working properly.  After that the fee is $20.00 per hour.  If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class.




Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

 Quilts for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is assigned one advocate who helps the child through the trying times including the trial of the abuser, if necessary. An abused child finds love and comfort when cuddling a quilt. Help us supply this worthy endeavor so every child who comes in for help gets a quilt to cuddle and keep. There is no charge for this class. You may supply your own fabrics or use a kit we have ready to go. Please call or stop in to register.

Embroidery Play Date – Embroidered Socks- Make a statement. Create embroidered socks that will get you compliments or simply bring you inner happiness. Embroidery will be done totally in the embroidery hoop –onto socks -with the help of a special little gadget. (Talk to Sue during the September Play Date so that your special gadget can be ordered). Once again, experience how machine embroidery will bring a giggle to not only you but your sock friends. Make sure that you not only sign up for the play date, but lay-away the required kit too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Pet Rescue Panel – The pet rescue panel is cute and can be just quilted. However we are teaching how to cut apart a panel and do something creative. You will do the cutting and most of the sewing in the class. What a fun quilt for your favorite dog lover. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Emerging Diamonds – What a beautiful cheery quilt. Let’s have fun with it before winter cold hits. You may use your choice of colors to fit your décor. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Ghosts and Ghouls – Halloween is coming. Make this quilt in your favorite Halloween fabrics or any fabrics you choose. This is an advanced beginner or intermediate quilter project. Come try your hand and have fun. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Banded Baskets – We always need a basket or tote to carry or organize our “stuff” whether it is for a car trip, a visit to a friend or family, for sewing supplies, or whatever. You could even make it as a Trick or Treat bag. This attractive “basket” can be made in any of three sizes so that it is perfect for your specific need. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Crazy Quilt Stocking – It isn’t too early to start making new Christmas stockings to hang on your mantel or wherever. It is a fun way to use scraps of fabrics from previous projects or to start fresh with new favorite fabrics. You may use Christmas fabrics or fabrics to match a décor. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Adding Borders to a quilt – We are using this Christmas panel to teach how to ad borders to your quilts. If you are uncomfortable adding borders, this class is perfect for you. Next month we will do a binding class. You may sign up for that and finish this panel. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Ultimate Art Organizer – Sue is once again challenging you to sew an absolutely fantastic organizer made from fabric—perhaps it’s for your inner artist, but most of you can use something that keeps all of your sewing “stuff” in the same place at the same time. The organizer has zippers—yes, 3 of them but don’t let that bother you. Just use happy colors and you’ll have fun sewing. Imagine a place for your machine feet? Or a place to stash your needles...Or how about notions like buttons and snaps? But then again, you could use it for colored pencils, markers or crayons. It’s challenging but oh so cool! Really!
$40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Basic Sewing part 2 – PJ Bottoms – If you have taken our Basic Sewing class and are ready for the next step, sign up to make the pajama bottoms. There is no need to fret about them fitting perfectly due to the design and our teacher’s help. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n Sew.

Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date – Merry Santa Drawstring Gift Bag – What could be better than a red cheeked happy Santa to spread holiday cheer? Several techniques – applique, drawstring in the hoop, and shrink fabric are used to complete this project. Merry in the creating and Merry in the giving. Make sure that you not only sign up for the play date, but lay-away the required kit too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year

Quilt Binding – Some quilters are not sure how to easily add binding to their quilts, especially at the corners. We love to teach you how to do this, including mitering the corners. You can use a quilt you have ready for binding, even the Christmas panel with borders you may have made last month, or a small quilt sandwich. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Zanzibar – This quilt is a different play on squares and rectangles. It looks a little bit like a disappearing none patch layout, but is done differently. It is quick to piece. Pick a print and some coordinating fabrics and you are on your way to a finished project. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Machine Embroidery Computer Help – Are your computer skills less than you would like? This class will teach you how to make a folder to store your embroidery designs, how to get designs from your computer into this folder, how to get designs from a CD into your folder, how to get designs from the folder into your embroidery machine. After this class, you should be comfortable to find a design you like and get it into your embroidery machine. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Notebook Cover with Pockets – Do you wish you used your serger more? Are you unsure of how to use some of the features on your serger? Take this class to use some of those fun features while making a useful notebook cover. You should go home with a better understanding of your serger’s capabilities. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.
