 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class




NOVEMBER CLASSES
Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date –In the Hoop Slippers – Pitter patter…pitter patter…Do you hear little feet? How do a pair of little “elephant” slippers sound to slip onto those little feet? Elephant slippers made completely in the hoop of your embroidery machine will have you setting up your holiday workshop. Make sure that you not only sign up for the Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Holy Gathering – Take this beautiful Nativity panel and add the “ribbon” border to make it even more special. What a stunning piece to hang in your home this holiday season. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Christmas Tree Panel – Learn to do Borders– For the quilter who is unsure about adding borders, this is the perfect class. Borders can make or break a quilt. Puckers and bubbles can be created by a border being incorrectly applied. Come learn how easy it can be to do it correctly. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Free Motion on the new Baby Lock Jazz
The 12” throat on the Jazz makes it a great machine for quilting. With its large "throat", speed, and good lighting it makes free motion on your quilts easier than on smaller machines.  Come learn basic free motion techniques. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Triangle Purse – We have offered a variety making purses. This triangle purse is both cute and economical as it doesn’t require a lot of fabric. It can even be made with fat quarters! There are no zippers in this purse- perfect for those who don’t like to sew them. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

3D Fabric Candle Ring – Don’t you love the 3D candle rings/wreaths you have been seeing everywhere? Come take this class and make your own! You can use 2 or 3 fabrics. And is could be a great opportunity to try out some of your decorative stitches. In Christmas fabrics, it makes a wonderful decoration, or gift. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Bobbin Works Tree Placemat – Bobbin Works seems so scary. Traditionally it can be difficult to get consistency using decorative threads in the bobbin. Using Baby Lock’s bobbin works accessory makes this project quick and easy. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Serger Gift Bag – Create a cute medium sized, reusable gift bag for any occasion. Once you know the technique, you can change the size to fit any gift. This project is quick. Easy, and versatile – a great one for anyone wanting to use your serger more confidently. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Quilts for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is assigned one advocate who helps the child through the trying times including the trial of the abuser, when necessary. An abused child finds love and comfort when cuddling in a quilt. Help us supply this worthy endeavor so every child who comes in for help gets a quilt to enjoy and keep.
There is no charge for this class. You may supply your own fabrics or use a kit we have ready to go.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00

Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date –Draft Stopper – Nothing is pleasant about a chilly breeze under your back door. But a comical line-up of jolly snowmen will put a smile on your face while stopping the chill. Kid’s Class - Sewing Machine Cover – Every sewing machine earns a name – whether it is George, Henry or Penny! Well, along with a name every sewing machine deserves something to wear! Don’t let your sewing machine sit around without proper clothing on! Let’s have fun making some “duds” for your faithful friend. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Got Squares – What a fun easy way to do “on point’ without the issues of dealing with bias!! This pattern is not good for obvious horizontal prints. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Pleasing Patchwork - Are you starting to feel like you know how to piece quilts? Build your confidence even more with this project. Go with soft colors, or go more modern with bright, cheerful fabrics. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Grass is Greener – This is a good project for a beginner. The turning of the fence rail blocks gives the illusion of framing the larger print squares. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions. 
Mon., Jan. 2, 9, & 23, 2:00-4:00

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause. We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will even supply you with the fabrics if you want to help but prefer not to buy the fabrics. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call, or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

Button Bag – This charming bag features buttons as accent. It looks great in homespuns or your choice of complementary cotton fabrics. If you don’t like to sew in zippers, this one is done differently. Try our technique and be surprised! $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

It is also the time to treat yourself to a delicate little lampshade for the light on your nightstand. Scrappy Diamond Illusion – A light and a dark, or a light and a medium fabric, and a bunch of scraps will become a beautiful scrappy quilt. Here is your chance to learn half square triangles. Some quilt piecing experience is helpful but not necessary. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Air Show – Have fun making the “uplifting” quilt for that special boy or tomboy and learn paper piecing at the same time. Of course you can make this in colors to complement his or her favorite colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Catch All Caddy - You will fall in love with this caddy. It is large enough for the kitchen sink, yet small enough tote around. Can you imagine 12 pockets? This is the project that you will be taking with you everywhere! $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Modern Pop – This quilt is the perfect way to showcase large patterned fabrics by using a “popper” to narrowly separate each piece. You will be surprised at what a difference the popper makes. Your machine should have multiple needle positions in order to easily make the poppers. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles – Help make pillow cases for sick children. This is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class.

Quilt Binding – Some quilters are not sure how to add binding to their quilts, especially at the corners. We love to teach you how to do this easy task, including mitering the corners. You can use a quilt you already have ready for binding or just practice on a small quilt sandwich. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.
