 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now Offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class




 Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause.
We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call , or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

MARCH CLASSES
Introduction to Machine Quilting with Linda Hall 
Are you a quilter with projects that need to be quilted but you don’t have time to quilt by hand? Do you want to finish your quilts yourself but don’t know how? Well come to Pottstown Sewing and learn how to put your quilt layers together and quilt it with your Baby Lock machine in no time. We will focus on setting up the machine for quilting, preparing the quilt top and learning two different machine quilting stitch patterns that are versatile enough to be used in any style quilt. You must have some basic sewing experience and be able to operate your own sewing machine. $75.00 for this class

 Fantastic Feathers with Linda Hall 
 Try your hand at fantastic free-motion feathers – even if you have struggled with this motif before. No marking patterns on your quilt top or following templates here – just free motion feathers all over your quilt – any size, any shape, with embellishments you may not have seen before. This method will have you conquering the design and mastery of line feather quilting on the very first morning – really!!! With your Baby Lock sewing machine and TruStitch regulator, you will learn how to create the basic free-form feather first, and then go on to decorate them with interesting stitch patterns. This timeless and beautiful motif is much easier that it looks, but very impressive – especially to your quilting friends! You must have some free-motion quilting experience – no drawing ability necessary. $75.00 for this class.

Beginning Quilt Piecing – 
This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Cobblestone – The quilt pattern comes with instructions for two sizes. You also have the option of putting on borders to make the finished quilt the size you want. It is stunning in the patriotic red, white, and blue. Your choice of colors may make it even more beautiful. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Baseball Legends – America’s favorite pastime is baseball. Now you can make a quilt themed for the baseball lover in your family. This quilt uses easy piecing and some applique. The colors are bright and cheerful enough even for the little league player. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Precious Little One –This adorable small wall hanging is perfect for the new little addition to your family or to the family of a friend. It can be made in boy colors, girl colors, or neutral like our sample. Whar a sweet addition to the nursery. Add your own little accents to make it truly unique. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Under The Sea – A cute panel just asking for you to embellish and quilt it. In just one two hour class you can get far enough along to easily finish it at home. You may copy our embellishments or make it your own way. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Embroidered Welcome Banner – Are you a little bit uncomfortable with making an embroidered item? This banner is a fun way to get past that “fear”. You can make it long, like our sample, or make it horizontal. The technique is the same $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Patchwork Purse – Women love purses, especially unusual ones. The pattern gives you two sizes to choose from. You can use coordinating fabrics for handles or purchased handles. This bag looks great in cotton prints as well as denim fabrics. Be sure that your machine can sew through multiple layers of your fabric. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger machine cover – Using your serger for making things, finishing seams, edging scarves, etc. are just a few of the uses for a serger. You can get a little more comfortable with your serger and make a cover for it at the same time. If it is in the box in a closet you won’t take it out and use it as quickly as if all you have to do is remove the cover.  
$20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Pillowcase Dresses for Charity – We are participating in this project to make dresses for little girls in Africa. All it takes is a pillowcase, some decorative trims, thread , and your time and ingenuity. We have the directions for you. Ribbons and trims are inexpensive and we have a variety if you don’t have much in your leftovers. There is no charge for this class. But we do want you to sign up to reserve a space.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

APRIL CLASSES
221 Featherweight Service Class – Do you own a Singer 221 Featherweight and wonder what you should be doing to maintain it? Would you like to be able to do a little more than just oil your baby? She will love you and serve you well when she is well cared for. This class has you doing more than just oiling your machine. You will learn more about tensions and how to adjust them, how to remove, replace and adjust the clutch, how to change and adjust the belt, and much more. $75.00 includes the 4 hour class and some supplies.

What’s New for your 221 - Even though your 221 Featherweight is no spring chicken, there are still things being made for use with it. This class shows you the latest accessories for your Featherweight and what to use them for. There is no charge, but you must pre-register. You will also receive special discounts on some of the items shown.

What’s New in Notions – Are you a gadget lover? Do you like things that make sewing easier and more fun? New motions can fulfill this niche. Come in to see what is the “latest and greatest” in sewing notions. There is no charge, but you must pre-register. You will also receive special discounts on some of the items shown.

Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions

T-shirt Quilt – Do you have a bunch of t-shirts that are favorites of your child or grandchild and want to make something with them? Making them into a memory quilt to take to college or their first home or apartment is one great way to do this. The t-shirts can follow a theme or just be your old favorites. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Smile Laugh Giggle – Girls and boys of all ages will love this quilt. Use fun colors to suit the taste of the special person you are making this for. You may add yoyos, buttons, or whatever embellishments you may desire or none at all. The quilt is so cute just the way the pattern has you do it. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

 Summer Holiday –Get in the mood for summer while you make this cheery, summery wall hanging. Summer fun is on the way. A wall hanging for the season could brighten up your room. You will learn how to do fusible applique. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Triangle Purse – We have offered a variety of classes making purses. Here is another new one. The triangle purse is cute and economical as it doesn’t require a lot of fabric. It can even be made with fat quarters. No zippers in this purse, so if you prefer not to sew in zippers, this class will work for you. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Shower Curtain with Organizer Pockets – Are bath time toys invading your shower? Here is a quick fix for a small space. Add decorative pockets to the inside or outside of the shower curtain to help clear the clutter in the bath or shower, or to accent your décor. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Baby Bib and Burp Pad – Cute and quick baby bibs and burp pads make nice gifts as well as practical items for everyday use. These projects are so simple you can create more than one set. They can be reversible with colorful contrasting fabric on each side. You can learn more about working with decorative threads on your serger. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Quilt Binding – Some quilters are not sure how to add binding to their quilts. We would love to teach you how to do this easy task, including mitering the corners. You can use a quilt you already off ready to bind or just practice on a small quilt sandwich. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

This class is to teach you how to take each quilt block, quilt it, and then put them together to get a finished quilt. You will need four blocks already pieced. They can be any style and fabric. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Well Springs– This quilt lends itself to batiks. Are you a little unsure of working with batiks? This class can show you that batiks are fun and can give you striking results. Make this in any size from crib to king. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Soft Whispers – A large print makes a great focal point for this quilt. Simply choose one large print you love and then fabrics that pull out the colors in your print. We will show you easy ways to do triangles. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Glory Days – What a whimsical patriotic wall hanging! Learn applique and stitch in the ditch quilting while you make this fun project. You can use fabrics from your stash. Pick a few buttons from your button box and you have most of the supplies you need. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Sister Tote – Make this tote for any of your many needs. It can be a great bag for many different purposes. Learn tips and tricks that will help you with other sewing projects. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Shirred Shaped Valance – A valance can really change the look of your window and add to your rooms décor. Learn how to make a lined valance with corded accents in this class. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Charity Sewing for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is “greeted’ with a cuddly quilt to help through the trying times. Please come help us make easy quilts for these children. You will get a 30% discount on all fabrics you buy for this. If you can’t afford to buy the fabrics, you can use some from your stash, or we will supply you with fabrics that were donated to us to use for charity quilts. There is no charge for this class.
