 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now Offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class





Charity Sewing for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is “greeted’ with a cuddly quilt to help through the trying times. Please come help us make easy quilts for these children. You will get a 30% discount on all fabrics you buy for this. If you can’t afford to buy the fabrics, you can use some from your stash, or we will supply you with fabrics that were donated to us to use for charity quilts. There is no charge for this class.

July classes
Introduction to Free Motion Quilting with Linda Hall – If you have several or lots of quilt tops ready to be quilted but are afraid to try to free motion them, this is the class for you. Linda will teach you techniques and patterns you can use right away. $75.00 class fee.

Feathers, Vines, and Leaves with Linda Hall 
 If you have already taken one of Linda’s classes and are ready for more involved free motion, come have fun and learn how to do feathers, vines, and leaves by free motion. You will draw a curved line on your fabric with a chalk pencil and use that as your guide. $75.00 class fee.

Kid’s Sewing Camp – This level 1 sewing class is for kids with little or no sewing experience. Each child must have a machine to use. He or she will learn how to use the machine and sewing techniques while making a pillow. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Driftwood – The name makes you think of the blues of the sea and the browns of driftwood. Of course, you may use any color combination you choose. It could be in the favorite colors or a student going off to college in the fall or made to compliment any room. Make crib or any bed size you wish. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Modern Pop – This quilt is the perfect way to showcase large patterned fabrics by using a “popper” to narrowly separate each piece. You will be surprised at what a difference the popper makes. Your machine should have multiple needle positions in order to easily make the poppers. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Tractor Races – Most boys love cars, trucks, tractors, etc. Learn how to applique or hone your kills while making this quilt for that special boy or tomboy. Of course you can make this in colors to complement his or her favorite colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Patchwork Purse– Women love purses, especially unusual ones. The pattern gives you two sizes to choose from. You can use coordinating fabrics for handles or purchased handles. This bag looks great in cotton prints as well as denim fabrics. Be sure that your machine can sew through multiple layers of your fabric. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Embroidered bag – Make a bag for your shoes when travelling, for your Bingo supplies, for your favorite grandchild’s crayons, or whatever else you can dream up. Embroidering the name and purpose of the bag makes it so special for its owner. They are so easy you might end up making a bunch. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause. We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call, or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

Embroider Bandanas for CCK – Just bring your enthusiasm. We will supply the fabric, thread, stabilizers, etc. CCK is a camp for seriously-ill children. We are making bandanas for the children to wear and take home after camp. Be part of this great cause and make a child smile. You don’t need any experience. We will show you how. Stay as long as you like. Have fun while helping others. If you have a Baby Lock embroidery machine, you may bring it if you wish. Feel free to call for more info. There is no charge for this.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

AUGUST CLASSES
Kid’s Sewing Camp – This level 2 sewing features a personal zippered bag. This is the perfectly sized bag with an eye-popping zipper. Use it for your school stuff, make-up, traveling supplies, jewelry, or your snack stash. Embellish it with crazy buttons, and bold fabric flowers. A great accessory to have. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Baseball Legends – America’s favorite pastime is baseball. Now you can make a quilt themed for the baseball lover in your family. This quilt uses easy piecing and some applique. The colors are bright and cheerful enough even for the little league player. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Autumn Gems – Your fabric choice can make this very striking. The pieced border adds to its allure. Throw in the fact that it is easier to make than it looks, and you might want to make the crib size, throw, twin, full, queen, or even king. This pattern is designed for 10” square packs or fat quarters, but you can use fabric by the yard as well. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Harvest Blessing – Falling leaves, cooler days, and Halloween are on the way. The time is right for making this applique and pieced wall hanging. It is accented with a few buttons. With its scarecrow face, pumpkin, and leaves, you might be inspired to do more decorating this fall. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Get Out of Town Duffle – Do you need a bag for that weekend trip? This stylish bag will carry quite a bit of stuff. It’s pockets, on both the inside and outside of the bag, give you the ability to organize so that you can grab an item quickly and easily. Girls Night Out– Women love purses, especially unusual ones. This cute little bag holds lots of necessities for the on-the-go woman. Lined Tab Curtains – Do-it-yourself home décor is the “in” thing so popular now. This class will teach you how to make an easy beautiful tab curtain for any room in your living space, for that cabin in the mountains, or even a college dorm room. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Bobbin Works Placemat – Bobbin Work is a technique of sewing decorative stitches with a heavier thread in your bobbin. If you have ever tried this and been unhappy with the result, we would love to show you Baby Lock’s bobbin work bobbin case and cover. It makes this technique some much easier. This class is open to all levels of sewers. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

221 Featherweight Service Class – Do you own a Singer 221 Featherweight and wonder what you should be doing to maintain it? Would you like to be able to do a little more than just oil your baby? She will love you and serve you well when she is well cared for. You will learn more about tensions and how to adjust them, now to remove, replace and adjust the clutch, how to change and adjust the belt, and much more. $75.oo includes the 4 hour class and some supplies.

Charity sewing for Kyle’s Quillows – There is no charge for this event. On Sunday September 27th from 12:00 until 3:30, we will be hosting a event for Kyle’s Quillows. You need a little sewing experience to help us make quillows for sick children. You don’t even need to sign up. However we would like you to let us know if you can so we can be better prepared Come and sew for a little while or as long as you would like. We appreciate your helping us help others. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity.

Got Squares? – What a fun easy way to do on point without the issues of dealing with bias!! This pattern is not good for obvious horizontal prints. The pattern includes all quilt sizes. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Boo Ville – Halloween is on its way. Would you like a cute wall hanging to add to your holiday decorations? This features easy to make ghosts floating over funky houses. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

T-shirt Quilt – Do you have a bunch of t-shirts that are favorites if your child or grandchild and want to make something with them? Making them into a memory quilt to take to college or their first home or apartment is one great way to do this. The t-shirts can follow a theme or just be old favorites. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Embroidered Fall Wall Hanging– Choose any fall embroidery design you like to be the focal point of this wall hanging If you prefer not to do a fall theme, you are free to choose your own theme.. Your choice of design and colors can make it elegant, whimsical, country, or whatever you like.. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Color Block Curtains - Get excited about this drapery project using coordinating fun fabrics. Blocked panels with grommets are separated by trimmed banding. The Roman Shade is optional if desired.

Football Table Runner – Kick off the big game day party by decorating your snack table with a football themed table runner. The center of the runner is designed to look lie a football field and is completed by a giant football at each end. $ 20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Notebook Cover with Pockets – Cover your binder for all your sewing ideas with some of your favorite fabrics. In making this cover you will have fun using some of the special functions of your serger, as well as decorative thread. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

ConKerr Cancer – Help make pillow cases for sick children. ConKerr Cancer is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class.
