 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now Offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class




January 2015
Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Smile, Laugh, Giggle – Whimsical letters on bright cheerful fabric make this quilt a winner with youngsters of all ages. We made our sampler larger than the pattern, but you can make it either size. You can make it “pretty in pink” for the little girl who loves pink, or whatever color scheme you would like. . $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.
Tues., Jan. 6, 13, & 27, 2:00-4:00

Hot Ziggity – Red, black and white make this quilt striking. IT is much easier than it looks. What a great accent piece in red, black and white, or any other color combination you choose. You can make it larger or smaller than our sample if you wish. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Tractor Races – Most boys loves cars, trucks, tractors, etc. Learn how to applique or hone your skills while making this quilt for that special boy or tomboy. Of course you can make this in colors to complement his or her favorite colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Jump for Joy –The cute jumping rabbits, give this a “springy” feel. Why not let it help your mood in the middle of a cold winter. Light or bright might just be what you need to get through the season. The pattern also includes directions to make 11” stuffed bunnies, similar to those in the quilt. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Shirred Shaped Valance – Spruce up you home over the winter as you customize a valance with your design features. You decide the shape and length and accessorize with cording or trim to individualize your valance. The teacher will help you from choosing your fabric (before the class), construction, and completion of this beautiful valance. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Kaitlynn’s Just Right Bag – This bag is large enough to hold your cell phone, keys, some money, ID, glasses, etc. It even has three inside pockets. It can be used as a small bag just by itself or as an organizer and thrown into your larger bag. It measures about 4” by 7”. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Crazy Quilt – If you think your serger is just for 4-thread seaming, this class will open your eyes. The serger is an ideal tool for quick and easy quilting, and it will put your quilt production on steroids! We will construct fabulous quilt sections using the “Mile-a-Minute” quilting method modified for serger. You will be able to use a variety of decorative threads, fabrics and stitches to add variety and interest. When you have finished the squares, you can learn how to construct the quilt with batting in one simple step. Finally, you will be able to finish the borders without binding.

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause.
We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call , or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew 
Tues., Jan. 20, 2:00-4:00

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

February Classes
Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.
Fri., Feb. 6, 13, 20, & 27 2:00-4:00

Double Dutch – The quilt pattern includes two pillow patterns. You have the option of making the wall hanging quilt, or one or both of the pillows. Each pillow is based on the components of the wall hanging. You will probably end up making all of them as they look so nice together. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Rough and Tumble – Little boys love trucks, dinosaurs, and just about anything that goes “grrr”. What rough and tumble boy wouldn’t love this quilt. If you are new to applique quilting, you will learn the tips and tricks in this class. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Shamrock Banner – St. Patrick’s Day will be here before you know it. If you or some of your friends or family decorate for this fun holiday, make this banner to add to the festivities. It is a nice size and can be done fairly quickly. Of course you may make it larger if you wish. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Circular Attachment Purse – If you have the circular attachment and need either inspiration or education on how to use it, then this class is right for you. You may even learn some other techniques that are new to you, like adding piping $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Lined Tab Curtain – Do It Yourself home décor is the “in” thing so popular now. This class will teach you how to make an easy, beautiful tab curtain for any room in your living space. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.
Sat., Feb. 7 & 14, 10:00-12:00, or Wed., Feb. 18 & 25, 2:00-4:00

Spring Placemat –Are you looking forward to spring’s warmer weather and pretty flowers? Why not enhance your anticipation while making these cheery placemats. This project has you transferring a stencil design and then quilting it. What a way to spark your sewing enthusiasm as you learn a new-to-you technique. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Ecology Bag – Some stores are selling cloth bags to use instead of paper or plastic. Support the ecology with you own eco-bag, made with your choice of fabrics. This particular one folds easily into its own pocket making it a cinch to take with you. . $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

ConKerr Cancer – Help make pillow cases for sick children. ConKerr Cancer is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class.
