 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $30.00 for the first hour, which includes an inspection of you sewing machine ahead of time to be sure it is working properly.  After that the fee is $20.00 per hour.  If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class.

Introduction to Free Motion Quilting with Linda Hall, renowned fabric artist and quilter – Free Motion Quilting is a technique that many quilters are not comfortable doing. In this class Linda teaches you how to properly prepare your quilt sandwich and then basic free motion techniques. Have fun with Linda and other quilters while you expand your quilting abilities. $75.00 class fee

Leaves and Vines with Linda Hall – If you are comfortable with stippling, meandering, or some basic free motion quilting, this class will expand your repertoire. Leaves and vines can be used in many ways on your quilts. With a little tweaking, the design could look not like a leaf, but like an interesting pattern. You must know how to pin-baste your quilt sandwich and have some experience doing free motion. $75.00 class fee

Template Use in Quilting With Linda Hall – If you have purchased or are interested in using templates in quilting, this class is just right for you. You will learn how to use templates to create interesting motifs on your quilts. Learn tips and tricks and have fun doing it. $75.00 class fee

221 Featherweight Service Class – Do you own a Singer 221 Featherweight and wonder what you should be doing to maintain it? Would you like to be able to do a little more than just oil your baby? She will love you and serve you well when she is well cared for. You will learn more about tensions and how to adjust them, now to remove, replace and adjust the clutch, how to change and adjust the belt, and much more. $85.00 includes the 4 hour class and some supplies.

Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date – Napkin Corners – Get a jump on a sweet present for Mother’s Day before it catches you off guard. This is different from the typical gifts we buy Mom. Make something she is sure to love and use. Make sure that you not only sign up for the Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Zanzibar – This quilt is a different play on squares and rectangles. It looks a little like disappearing nine patch in the layout but is done differently. It is quick to piece. Pick a print and some coordinating fabrics and you are on the way to a finished project. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Batik Ribbon Twist–  The pattern is called Batik Ribbon Twist, but you do not have to use batiks. Batiks have a certain look, but imagine this quilt done in tonal cottons. It can be just a striking. Join us and make one in your choice of fabrics and colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Tropical Cadenza– The pattern for this quilt includes 25 layouts all using 2 simple blocks. Take the class and learn our quick tips for making one layout. Then you may try others at your convenience. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.
Wed., April 5, 12, & 26, 6:15-8:15

Grids and Grommets - This bag pattern is a versatile style offered in four sizes. The largest one makes a tote, while the smallest makes a cute purse. You can use an interesting fabric or strip piece coordinating fabrics. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.  
Sat., April 8, 2:00-4:00

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew.

Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date –Coin Pouch – We all know that pennies add up, so we will be making a zippered coin purse – done totally in the hoop. Oh! You noticed the word “zipper”. Yup, that is done with your embroidery machine and while in the hoop. Join us for discovering the magic of zippers and embroidery. Make sure that you not only sign up for the Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Toys That Travel – Perfect for the beginner or a fast project for the more experienced quilter. The fabrics for the toys can come from your stash. Just add the background, border and sashing. Join the class and make yours. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

A Touch of Attitude – The accent color creates the “attitude” in this quilt. The pieced border is a nice added touch. It is fairly easy. There are no bias sides of triangles to stretch out of shape. Come join us and learn how easy this quilt can be. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Pleasing Patchwork– Are you starting to feel like you know how to piece quilts? Build your confidence even more with this project. Go with soft colors, or go more modern with bright cheerful fabrics. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

T-Shirt Quilt - Do you have a bunch of t-shirts that are favorites of your child or grandchild and want to make something with them? Making them into a memory quilt to take to college or their first home or apartment is one great way to do this. The t-shirts can follow a theme or just be old favorites. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.
Tues., May 9, 16, & 30, 2:00-4:00 

Catch All Caddy – You will fall in love with this caddy. We are running the class again because it is so well loved. The caddy is large enough for the kitchen sink, yet small enough to tote around. Can you imagine 12 pockets?! This is the project that you will be taking everywhere with you. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Charity sewing for Kyle’s Quillows – There is no charge for this event. On Sunday May 7th from 12:00 noon to 3:30, we will be hosting an event for Kyle’s Quillows. You don’t need much sewing experience to help us make quillows for sick children. You don’t even need to sign up. However we would like you to let us know if you can so we can be better prepared Come and sew for a little while or as long as you would like. We appreciate your helping us help others. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity. We will even supply you with the fabrics.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles – Help make pillow cases for sick children. This is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class
