 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now offering Private Lessons.  Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you've wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $30.00 for the first hour, which includes an inspection of you sewing machine ahead of time to be sure it is working properly.  After that the fee is $20.00 per hour.  If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class.

221 Featherweight Service Class 
Do you own a Singer 221 Featherweight and wonder what you should be doing to maintain it? Would you like to be able to do a little more than just oil your baby? She will love you and serve you well when she is well cared for. You will learn more about tensions and how to adjust $85.00 includes the 4 hour class and some supplies.

Charity sewing for Kyle’s Quillows – There is no charge for this event. On Sunday, Sept. 24th from 12:00 noon to 3:30, we will be hosting an event making quillows for children at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. You don’t need to sign up. However, we would like you to let us know if you can so we can be better prepared. Come in and sew for a little while or as long as you would like. We appreciate your helping us help others. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity.

Embroidery Play Date – Pumpkin – Turn your embroidery machine into a pumpkin patch! A very prolific pumpkin patch! Watch pumpkins of all sizes and colors materialize right before your eyes. And all just in time for the pumpkin spice season. Make sure that you not only sign up for the play date, but lay-away the required kit too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Barbara’s quick Tips and Tricks for Quilt Piecing 
So you have tried quilt piecing, but could use some helpful hints. Come get tips and tricks on sewing a perfect ¼” seam, matching seams, easing, and more. You may learn the techniques on scrap fabric or you can learn the techniques while making a charity quilt top for Michael’s House. Feel free to call Barbara if you have questions. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Using your computer with your Embroidery Machine 
Are your computer skills less than you would like? This class will teach you how to make a folder to store your embroidery designs, how to get designs from your computer into this folder, how to get designs from a CD into your folder, how to get designs from the folder into your embroidery machine. After this class, you should be comfortable to find a design you like and get it into your embroidery machine. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Catch All Caddy – You will fall in love with this caddy. We are running this class again because it is so well loved and people are asking for the class. The caddy is large enough for the kitchen sink, yet small enough to tote around. Can you imagine 12 pockets?! This is the project that you will be taking everywhere with you. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Air Show – Have fun making the “uplifting” quilt for that special boy or tomboy and learn paper piecing at the same time. Of course, you can make this in colors to complement his or her favorite colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

BooVille – Halloween is on its way. Would you like a cute wall hanging to add to your holiday decorations? This features easy to make ghosts floating over funky houses. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Harvest Blessing – Falling leaves, cooler days, and Halloween are on the way. The time is right for making this applique and pieced wall hanging. It is accented with a few buttons. With its scarecrow face, pumpkin, and leaves, you might do more decorating for fall. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Banded Baskets – Do you need a cute, fast project to put a gift in? This set of three baskets is fun, easy to make and fits the bill. We will make one in class, but the pattern includes all three! Great for organizing home, sewing room, of nursery. $10.00 includes the two hour class and instructions.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew.

October
Introduction to Free Motion Quilting with Linda Hall – Linda Hall is again coming to Pottstown Sewing to teach the basics of free motion quilting. In this class you will learn not only free motion techniques, but also how to prepare your “quilt sandwich”, needles and threads to use and much more. You will also get to see some of Linda’s unique creations. The class runs from 9am to 4pm with a break for lunch. The class fee is $85.00. Be sure to stop in for your supply list.

Vivacious Vines and Leaves with Linda Hall – For those who are looking to increase the variety of free motion designs you can use on quilts this class will excite you as you learn new techniques. Vines and leaves can add a new dimension to your quilts. Have fun while learning. You will also get to see some of Linda’s unique creations. The class runs from 9am to 4pm with a break for lunch. The class fee is $85.00. Be sure to stop in for your supply list.

Template use in Quilting with Linda Hall – Using templates on your quilts can add to the versatility of your quilting. Linda will show you how to get creative with the templates in Baby Lock’s free motion quilting system. If you haven’t tried the templates we will allow you to use them for the class. The class runs from 9am to 4pm with a break for lunch. The class fee is $85.00. Be sure to stop in for your supply list.

Embroidery Play Date – “Bats in Flight” – Embroidery Play Date’s twist on Oct-“sew”-berfest! Chant slowly. Bobbin of black. Waning web of white. Silver needle pack. Spindle filled with night. Magic chamber five by seven, cast this spell Monday nine ‘til eleven or if need be, Sunday one until three. Bats take flight before twilight. Make sure that you not only sign up for the play date, but lay-away the required kit too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Tube Piecing – table runner – Do you have a lot of extra 2 ½” strips? Have some 6” wide left over fabrics? Come see how tube piecing easily gives you blocks that can go together in many different ways. Make table runners, placemats, or pot holders to use as gifts or for yourself. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Starry Nights – wall hanging with lights – We have both Christmas tree and wreath panels that you can add lights to for a beautiful holiday wall hanging. You will be surprised how easy this is. Start now to prepare your decorations. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

All is Calm – This beautiful inspiring panel, doesn’t need much to finish it. We set it off by quilting using a walking foot with the open toe so we can see where to stitch. Come in and make one for yourself or as a gift. What a stunning piece! $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Retreat Tote – Whenever you go to a retreat you need to bring quite a few tools and supplies. This tote is designed to hold all of them with plenty of pockets. Even if you don’t go to retreats often, you will find many uses for this tote. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles, formerly known as ConKerr Cancer – Help make pillow cases for sick children. This is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class.

Ball Table Runner – Use your serger to make a quick table runner. Serge using some decorative thread to make an interesting edge finish and you are done. This technique can also be used on placemats and other home dec projects. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Over Size Rail Fence – Here is another twist on the split rail fence quilt. You don’t need to buy a pattern or book to make this quilt. Our same is in Christmas colors and fabrics, but you can easily use your own color scheme. Stop in and we’ll help you pick out your fabrics if you wish. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Holiday Elegance – A Christmas wall hanging that is elegant, yet easy to make. The white, silver and red are not the typical Christmas colors but go well with many color schemes. Add this to your holiday decorations or start a whole new scheme this year. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Twice Broken Dishes – A rotary cut and strip pieced variation of the traditional Broken Dishes block – with a few cracks!! What an interesting fun quilt. Join the class and make yours. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Triangle Purse – We have offered a variety of classes making purses. This triangle purse is both cute and economical as it doesn’t require a lot of fabric. It can even be made using fat quarters!!. There are no zippers in this purse – perfect for those who don’t like to sew in zippers. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Quilts for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is assigned one advocate who helps the child through the trying times including the trial of the abuser, when necessary. An abused child finds love and comfort when cuddling in a quilt. Help us supply this worthy endeavor so every child who comes in for help gets a quilt to enjoy and keep.
There is no charge for this class. You may supply your own fabrics or use a kit we have ready to go.
