 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now offering Private Lessons.  Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you've wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $30.00 for the first hour, which includes an inspection of you sewing machine ahead of time to be sure it is working properly.  After that the fee is $20.00 per hour.  If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class.




JULY

Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date – Shirt Insert – Tee-Shirt with a Battenburg Lace Insert
Do you have a shirt that’s just lacking? Does it look like everyday ho-hum? When “lace” is added to any shirt, it definitely goes from “mmmmmm?” to “wow!” In class you will be embroidering a simple “Battenburg” lace triangle to the back of an inexpensive tee-shirt and you’ll see the transformation in real time. Make sure that you not only sign up for the Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

A Log Cabin in Summer – In this class we will make a complete quilt top, sandwich, quilt, and bind this bright and summery quilt. We will learn log cabin blocks, add sashing, piano key borders, free motion quilting, and scrappy binding. Join us for all the fun! $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Glow Lanterns – A great class for a “confident beginner”. It is fast, fun, and easy. Adding the splash of color to the black and white makes it pop. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Quilt Binding - Some quilters are not sure how to easily add binding to their quilts, especially at the corners. We love to teach you how to do this easy task, including mitering the corners. You can use a quilt you already have ready for binding, or just practice on a small quilt sandwich. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions

Kid’s Sewing Camp #1 Envelope Pillow – Now is the time to explore the fun of sewing! During the first week of Kids’ Sewing Camp, you will not only enjoy using your sewing machine, but you will also go home with an eye-popping, crazy, fun pillow that has big and sassy buttons on it. Kid’s Sewing Camp - Back Pack - Go from gym to swim in no time with this super stylish cinch back pack. This back pack is not only mega-functional but secure because is cinches rather than zips. Kid’s Sewing Camp – Slide Apron - Everyone needs to have a funky, wacky, and “statement” apron for cooking! The coolest thing about this apron, is that it fits ANYONE because of the adjustable neck straps. Make it for yourself or as a gift. This Kids’ Sewing Camp is for all kids that have completed Camps 1 & 2 OR Beginning Sewing that has been offered at Pottstown Sewing.
$30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause. We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will even supply you with the fabrics if you want to help but prefer not to buy the fabrics. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call, or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

Kid’s Sewing Camp – Flip Flops - So long snow boots! Hello sandals! It’s time to free your toes. Dress up your feet for summer with a pair of chic, fun-fabric enhanced flip flops. Sew some new soles, add a flip flop base and wrap up some straps to create your own “beach” statement. This Kids’ Sewing Camp is for all kids that have completed Camps 1 & 2 OR Beginning Sewing that has been offered at Pottstown Sewing. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew.

AUGUST
Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date –Greeting Card — Okay, what rock has been left unturned? Well, machine embroidering on paper to make a greeting card. You will make a card that is not only unique, but also more attractive than anything that you could purchase at a boutique. Personalization can be expanded by using not only embroidery on the card, but ribbon, fabric, and additional paper. And the final plus of an embroidered card is that it can be framed afterward for that treasured keepsake. (Or if the receiver is a sewist, the card can be used in a memory quilt). Make sure that you not only sign up for the Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Just Three Yards – Just three yards is just that. 6 half yard pieces make a great throw. It can be done “scrappy” or as an accent. Join us and make one in your choice or fabrics and colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Emerging Diamonds – This is not a bargello quilt, but it seems to have that “feel”. If you are up for trying something different, why not join the class. Fun and interesting and not too difficult. – That is the recipe for a nice class. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Quilts for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is assigned one advocate who helps the child through the trying times including the trial of the abuser, when necessary. An abused child finds love and comfort when cuddling in a quilt. Help us supply this worthy endeavor so every child who comes in for help gets a quilt to enjoy and keep.
There is no charge for this class. You may supply your own fabrics or use a kit we have ready to go.

221 Featherweight Service Class 
Do you own a Singer 221 Featherweight and wonder what you should be doing to maintain it? Would you like to be able to do a little more than just oil your baby? She will love you and serve you well when she is well cared for. You will learn more about tensions and how to adjust $85.00 includes the 4 hour class and some supplies.

Charity sewing for Kyle’s Quillows – There is no charge for this event. On Sunday, Sept. 24th from 12:00 noon to 3:30, we will be hosting an event making quillows for children at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. You don’t need to sign up. However, we would like you to let us know if you can so we can be better prepared. Come in and sew for a little while or as long as you would like. We appreciate your helping us help others. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity.

Barbara’s quick Tips and Tricks for Quilt Piecing 
So you have tried quilt piecing, but could use some helpful hints. Come get tips and tricks on sewing a perfect ¼” seam, matching seams, easing, and more. You may learn the techniques on scrap fabric or you can learn the techniques while making a charity quilt top for Michael’s House. Feel free to call Barbara if you have questions. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Using your computer with your Embroidery Machine 
Are your computer skills less than you would like? This class will teach you how to make a folder to store your embroidery designs, how to get designs from your computer into this folder, how to get designs from a CD into your folder, how to get designs from the folder into your embroidery machine. After this class, you should be comfortable to find a design you like and get it into your embroidery machine. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Catch All Caddy – You will fall in love with this caddy. We are running this class again because it is so well loved and people are asking for the class. The caddy is large enough for the kitchen sink, yet small enough to tote around. Can you imagine 12 pockets?! This is the project that you will be taking everywhere with you. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Harvest Blessing – Falling leaves, cooler days, and Halloween are on the way. The time is right for making this applique and pieced wall hanging. It is accented with a few buttons.
