 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now Offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class

APRIL

221 Featherweight Service Class – Do you own a Singer 221 Featherweight and wonder what you should be doing to maintain it? Would you like to be able to do a little more than just oil your baby? She will love you and serve you well when she is well cared for. You will learn more about tensions and how to adjust them, how to remove, replace and adjust the clutch, how to change and adjust the belt, and much more. $75.00 includes the 4 hour class and some supplies.

Beginner Free Motion Quilting with Linda Hall – Would you like to learn how to free motion quilt? Have you tried but feel you need help? Linda Hall is an expert both at free motion quilting and teaching it. Come spend a day learning tips and tricks, so you can do your own quilting. Her classes fill quickly, so don’t wait to sign up. The fee for this class is $85.00.
Wed., April 13 or Sat., April 16, 9am to 4pm with a break for lunch

Intermediate Free Motion Quilting with Linda Hall - In this class Linda takes the person with free motion experience into learning feathers and possibly vines and leaves. You must know how to pin-baste your quilt sandwich and have some experience doing free motion. The fee for this class is $85.00.

Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date – Kentucky Derby Hats – Join the fun embellishing your hat to celebrate the Kentucky Derby. We’ll be embroidering decoration directly onto your hat without using a “hat hoop”. Use your ingenuity to design a one of a kind masterpiece. Make sure that you not only sign up for the Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. Kit $10.00. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Just Three Yards – Just three yards is just that. 6 ½ yard pieces make a great throw. It can be done “scrappy” or as an accent. Join us and make one in your choice of fabrics and colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Modern Pop -This quilt is the perfect way to showcase large patterned fabrics by using a “popper” to narrowly separate each piece. You will be surprised at what a difference the popper makes. Your machine should have multiple needle positions in order to easily make the poppers. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Soft Whispers – A large print makes a great focal point for this quilt. Simply choose one large print you love and then fabrics that pull out the colors in your print. We will show you easy ways to do triangles.

Shirred, Shaped Valance – A valance can really change the look of your window and add to your room’s decor. Learn how to make a lined valance with corded accents in this class. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Unisex Apron – Cook-out weather is upon us. Do you need a new apron? Learn some easy serger tricks while making an apron for yourself or someone else. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Charity sewing for Kyle’s Quillows – There is no charge for this event. On Sunday April 10th from 12 noon to 3:30, we will be hosting an event for Kyle’s Quillows. You don’t need much sewing experience to help us make quillows for sick children. You don’t even need to sign up. However we would like you to let us know if you can so we can be better prepared Come and sew for a little while or as long as you would like. We appreciate your helping us help others. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

Charity Sewing – Come in and sew for your choice of charity. We will help you if needed. We have kits for quilts for Michael’s House, or pillowcases for Ryan’s Case for Smiles. You might also choose to make pillowcase dresses for little girls in Africa. There is no charge for this.

MAY

Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Summer Holidays – Summer fun is on the way. Get in the mood for summer while making this cheery, summery wall hanging. A wall hanging for the season could brighten up almost any room. You will learn how to do fusible applique. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Glory Days – What a whimsical patriotic wall hanging. Just in time for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Learn applique and stitch in the ditch quilting while you make this fun project. You can use fabrics from your stash. Pick a few buttons from your button box and you have most of the supplies you need. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Diamond Dance – This colorful quilt is suitable for all skill levels and sews up quickly. You will be able to practice accurate ¼” seams with the long strips. Mix and match for a random effect. Try a selection of 8 different batiks or other bright and contrasts. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Bistro Bag – What a fun design! This bag has three interior compartments to store all your must haves. It is quick and easy to make. Make it yours by your choice of fabrics. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Patriotic Place Settings – Do more with your serger! Make your picnic table setting themed for the 4th of July, or make it in colors to suit your décor. In two classes you will make both the placemats and napkins. Our supply list is for four of each, but you can make more if you wish. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Bobbin Works Sampler Placemat – Using heavy thread in the bobbin and sewing with the right side of the fabric down can be scary. Take the fear out of bobbin works by attending this class. You will get to test different threads and stitches to learn the tricks to successful bobbin works. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles, formerly known as ConKerr Cancer – Help make pillow cases for sick children. This is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class.

Kids Camp – Pillow with button - Now is the time to explore the fun of sewing! During the first week of Kids’ Sewing Camp, you will not only enjoy using your sewing machine, but you will also go home with an eye-popping, crazy, fun pillow that has big and sassy buttons on it. So, mark you calendar right now and join us for a really good time!

Brightly Woven – This bargello style quilt is stunning with the bright fabrics. You can make it in the colors of our sample or your own choice. We have Northcott’s fabrics used in this quilt. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Baseball Legends – America’s favorite pastime is baseball. Now you can make a quilt themed for the baseball lover in your family. This quilt uses easy piecing and some applique. The colors are bright and cheerful enough for even the little league player. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Got Squares – This What a fun easy way to do on point without the issues of dealing with bias!! This pattern is not good for obvious horizontal prints. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Baby Bib and Burp Pad – Cute and quick baby bibs and burp pads make nice gifts as well as practical items for everyday use, These projects are so simple you can create more than one set. They can be reversible with colorful contrasting fabric on each side. You will learn more about working with decorative threads on your serger. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause. We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will even supply you with the fabrics if you want to help but prefer not to buy the fabrics. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call, or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

Kids Camp – Zippered Bag – Welcome to week 2 of Kids’ Sewing Camp! Don’t let any one tell you that zippers are impossible to sew! Show the world what you can do! You’ll be sewing a zipper, easy-peasy. Use the bag that you’ll be making for pens/pencils, make-up, collectibles, or just about anything! You must take Camp 1 in order to have the skills to successfully stitch up this project.

Kids Camp – Apron – Everyone needs to have a funky, wacky, and “statement” apron for cooking! The coolest thing about this apron, is that it fits ANYONE because of the adjustable neck straps. Make it for yourself or as a gift.
This Kids’ Sewing Camp is for all kids that have completed Camps 1 & 2 OR Beginning Sewing that has been offered at Pottstown Sewing.

Twice Broken Dishes – A rotary cut and strip pieced variation of the traditional Broken Dishes block – with a few extra cracks! What an interesting fun quilt. Join the class and get yours. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Precious Little One – This adorable small wall hanging is perfect for the new little addition to your family or the family of a friend. It can be made in boy colors, girl colors, or neutral. What a sweet addition to the nursery. Add your own little accents to make it truly unique. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Autumn Gems – Your fabric choice can make this very striking. The pieced border adds to its allure. Throw in the fact that it is easier to make than it looks, and you might want to make the crib, twin, full, queen or even king. The pattern is designed for 10” squares or fat quarters, but you can use fabric by the yard as well. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Quilts for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is assigned one advocate who helps the child through the trying times including the trial of the abuser, when necessary. An abused child finds love and comfort when cuddling in a quilt. Help us supply this worthy endeavor so every child who comes in for help gets a quilt to enjoy and keep.
There is no charge for this class. You may supply your own fabrics or use a kit we have ready to go.
