 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now offering Private Lessons.  Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you've wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $30.00 for the first hour, which includes an inspection of you sewing machine ahead of time to be sure it is working properly.  After that the fee is $20.00 per hour.  If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class.

Sip N Serge – Grab your friends and your favorite beverages for a fun social sewing event! As part of National Serger Month, we are hosting a Sip N Serge event where you will make a cute apron. Bring your own soda, tea, or other drink and we’ll provide you with everything else you need – including the serger, fabric, instructions, and more. There is a $15.00 fee for this class.

Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date – Fans - It’ll be hot and humid before you know it and you’ll be reaching for that magazine to use as a fan to cool yourself. But how about nixing the magazine and treating yourself to a real fan? Not the type that you put in the window. A gorgeous fabric fan with elaborate embroidery that might make you think of the Far East or of those glamorous movie stars from by-gone eras. And if you’re still looking for that unusual and classy Mother’s Day gift, here it is. Make sure that you not only sign up for the play date, but lay-away the required kit too. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year. Sun., April 15, 1:00-3:00 or Mon., April 16, 9:00-11:00
Emerging Diamonds – What a beautiful, cheery start to spring. Making this quilt might cheer you out of those winter doldrums! Come join us and having fun piecing this cheery quilt. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Zanzibar – This quilt is a different play on squares and rectangles. It looks a little bit like a disappearing nine patch in the layout, but is done differently. It is quick to piece. Pick a print and some coordinating fabrics and you are on the way to a finished project. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes.

Flying Geese– The geese are flying back to Pottstown Sewing for Spring! Come make this charming spring wall hanging to freshen up your décor. In this class you will learn how to cut and sew flying geese units, and how to assemble your quilt top and add borders. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Retreat Tote – Whenever you go to a retreat you need to bring quite a few tools and supplies. This tote is designed to hold all of them with plenty of pockets. Even if you don’t go to retreats often, you will find many uses for this big tote. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Catch All Caddy – You will fall in love with this caddy. We are running this class again because it is so popular and still in demand. The caddy is large enough for the kitchen sink, yet small enough to tote around. Can you imagine 12 pockets?! This is the project that you will be taking everywhere with you. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt. Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause. We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will even supply you with the fabrics if you want to help but prefer not to buy the fabrics. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call, or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n Sew.

Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date – Grow Sacks - Time to get in your “digs”. Embroider up a sack that can hold your summer vegetables or flowers. Place these sacks on your porch or along your walkway. They’ll add that little pop of color until your plants add their joy. Summer Holidays – Summer fun is on the way. |Get in the mood for summer while making this cheery, summery wall hanging. A wall hanging for the season could brighten up almost any room. You will learn how to do fusible applique. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Air Show - What a cute quilt for that child that loves planes! Have you tried paper piecing? Learn how to do it while making this quilt. You might just love this technique. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes.

Baby Zoom Submarine – So cute and still very quick to make. This is suitable for even a beginning quilter. Learn sashing and borders while having fun. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Grass is Greener – Fence rail blocks and squares make up this quilt. Just by rotating the fence rail blocks you get a look almost like you were framing the squares. We brightened it by our choice of fabrics for our sample quilt. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Cupcake Placemats – Birthdays come throughout the year. This festive placemat is a great addition to your birthday decorations. You can even embroider “Happy Birthday” and/or a name on it. It is so easy that you might make one for each family member and friend. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Quilts for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is assigned one advocate who helps the child through the trying times including the trial of the abuser, if necessary. An abused child finds love and comfort when cuddling a quilt. Help us supply this worthy endeavor so every child who comes in for help gets a quilt to cuddle and keep. There is no charge for this class. You may supply your own fabrics or use a kit we have ready to go. Please call or stop in to register.

Beginner Sewing 2 – Pajama Bottoms – Put all your Basic Sewing skills to work when you construct a garment from a store-bought pattern. This is a step by step interpretation and implementation of a beginner pattern from fabric to garment. Show how all your hard work and practice brings you to the trophy! Prerequisite - our Basic Sewing class. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Just Three Yards – Just three yards is just that – 6 half yard pieces make a great throw. It can be done “scrappy” or as an accent to your décor. Join us and make one in your choice of fabrics and colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Twice Broken Dishes – A rotary cut and strip pieced variation of the traditional Broken Dishes block – with a few cracks!! What an interesting and fun quilt. Join the class and make yours in your choice of fabrics and colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes.

Kid’s Sewing Camp #1 Envelope Pillow – Now is the time to explore the fun of sewing! During the first week of Kids’ Sewing Camp, you will not only enjoy using your sewing machine, but you will also go home with an eye-popping, crazy, fun pillow that had big and sassy buttons on it. So, mark your calendar right now and join us for a really good time. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Kid’s Sewing Camp #2 – Accessory Bag with Zipper – Welcome to the second week of sewing camp. Are you ready to kick up your sewing skills along with having loads of fun? Take this class and then you will be qualified to take any other of our sewing camp classes. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles – Help make pillow cases for sick children. This is a local charity that gives pillowcases to the pediatric units in hospitals. If you would like to help, you can come in and sew pillowcases, donate fabrics, and/or donate cash. We can supply you with fabrics for pillowcases or you may bring some in. We would prefer that you bring in your own sewing machine so you can enjoy sewing for charity without the hassle of learning a different machine. If you would like to help make pillowcases but can’t come at the times shown below, stop in for the directions. We can even give you fabric to make the pillow cases if you need it. Of course, there is no charge for this class.
