 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now Offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class




Beginning Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

Embroidery Play Date – Stunning Lace Table Runner – Yes! Believe it. Your embroidery machine can stitch this unmistakably stunning lace table runner. During our play date, we’ll complete one side of the runner. But just in case you are not a table runner enthusiast, the lace design could also be used on blouses or formal wear. Make sure that you not only sign up for our February Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. Kit $16.00 includes the embroidery design, fabrics, and stabilizers. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Jump for Joy – The cute jumping rabbits give this a “springy” feel. Why not let it help your mood in the middle of a cold winter! Light or bright might just be what you need to get through the season. The pattern also includes directions to make 11” stuffed bunnies, similar to those in the quilt. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Hot Ziggity - Red, black and white make this quilt striking. It is much easier than it looks. What a great accent piece in red, black and white, or any other color combination you choose. You may make it smaller or larger than our sample if you wish. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Well Springs – This quilt lends itself to batiks. Are you a little unsure of working with batiks? This class can show you that batiks are fun and can give you striking results. Make this any size from crib to king. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Quilt Binding – Some quilters are not sure how to add binding to their quilts. We would love to teach you how to do this easy task, including mitering the corners. You can use a quilt you already have ready to bind or just practice on a small quilt sandwich. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Lined Tab Curtains – Do-it-yourself home décor is the “in” thing so popular now. This class will teach you how to make an easy beautiful tab curtain for any room in your living space, for that cabin in the mountains, or even a college dorm room. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Ecology Bag – Some stores are selling cloth bags to use instead of paper or plastic. Support the ecology with your own eco-bag, made with your choice of fabrics. This particular one folds easily into its own pocket making it a cinch to take with you. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Serger Zippered Lingerie Bag – You will want to make more than one of these. This bag is simple to make and nice to have on hand for all you delicate treasures. It is surprisingly easy to apply a zipper using a serger. You will definitely want to learn this technique. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Charity Sewing for CCK – Travel Quilt - Free class to make small quilts for The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp for medically challenged children. This pattern is easy enough for any sewer. You don’t have to quilt it. We will do that for you. Why not spend a little time learning more about quilting and making something for a good cause. We supply the instruction, have the quilt quilted, and send it to CCK. We will embroider the camp mascot on your quilt for you if you don’t have an embroidery machine, or we will give you the design so you can do the embroidery. Stop in, call, or email for more info. There is no charge for this class and we give you a 30% discount for the fabrics and batting you buy from us for this project.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

MARCH
Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.
March 9, 16, 23, & 30, 2:00-4:00

Embroidery Play Date – Shadow Work Pillow Case Trim –Shadow Applique - is a very subtle style of machine embroidery that mimics softly colored heirloom hand embroidery. During our play date, we will be embroidering a "new" band to substitute the existing band of a factory made pillow case. Perfectly suitable for those upcoming Spring and Summer wedding shower gifts. Make sure that you not only sign up for our March Play Date, but “lay-away” the required kit, too. Kit costs $6.81. $10.00 per class or $55.00 for one year.

Batik Ribbon Twist– The pattern is called Batik Ribbon Twist, but you do not have to use batiks. Batiks give a certain look, but imagine this quilt done in tonal cottons. It can be just as striking. Join us and make one in your choice of fabrics and colors. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Zanzibar- This quilt is a different play on squares and rectangles. It looks a little like Disappearing Nine Patch in the layout but is done differently. If is pretty quick to piece together. If you love Hot Ziggity in the red, white, and black, you can use that color theme here. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions. 
Mon, March 7, 14, & 28, 6:15-8:15

Smile, Laugh Giggle– Girls and boys of all ages will love this quilt. Use fun colors to suit the taste of the special person you are making this for. You may add yoyos, buttons, or whatever embellishments you may desire or even none at all. The quilt is sooo cute, just the way the pattern has you make it. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Pinch-pleated Lined Draperies – Anyone who has wanted to learn to make lined pinch-pleated draperies will enjoy this class. Students will be taught the “tricks of the trade” and the techniques necessary to make beautiful draperies. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Breezy Weave Bag – Weave fabric strips filled with stiff interfacing to create fun bags for just aobut anywhere you are headed. Consider using one fabric, color or shade(dark or light) for the vertical strips and a contrasting fabric or color for the horizontal strips. Batiks as well as 100% cotton fabrics work very nicely for this. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Notebook Cover – Many notebooks come with inside pockets. Make a decorative color that not only protects your notebook as it adds style, but also features two pockets on the front cover. Get stylish and organized at the same time. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Quilts for Michael’s House – Michael’s House is a child advocacy center for abused children. Each child is assigned one advocate who helps the child through the trying times including the trial of the abuser, when necessary. An abused child finds love and comfort when cuddling in a quilt. Help us supply this worthy endeavor so every child who comes in for help gets a quilt to enjoy and keep.
There is no charge for this class. You may supply your own fabrics or use a kit we have ready to go.
