 Class Policy

Prepaid registration is required for all classes at Pottstown Sewing.  A list of any additional supplies will be provided upon paid registration. Paid participants receive a 15% discount off all non-sale items purchased for the class. Bring your own sewing machine, serger, or embroidery machine in good working order for the project classes as appropriate. You will also need basic sewing supplies for the project classes.  If you need to withdraw from a class, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another class of your choice. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class. Now Offering Private Lessons €“ Is there a project you want help with, or a technique you'€™ve wanted to learn? Pottstown Sewing is now offering private lessons in addition to our catalog of classes. Individual classes are $20.00 per hour, or round up a friend or two for a semi-private lesson and save. Two-person classes are $15.00 per person per hour; three-person (or more) classes are $10.00 per person per hour. If you need to withdraw from a Private Lesson, call us prior to the start of the class and we will transfer your paid class fee to another available private lesson block. Class fees are not refundable or transferable after the start of class




APRIL CLASSES
Basic Quilt Piecing – This is a four-part class to teach basic quilt skills. If you aren’t sure of how to put the pieces together to make a quilt top, this class will teach basic techniques. You will make a sampler table runner while learning how to make your points “pointy”, how to appliqué, etc. $40.00 includes the four two-hour classes and instructions.

T-shirt Quilt – Do you have a bunch of t-shirts that are favorites of your child or grandchild and want to make something with them? Making them into a memory quilt to take to college or their first home or apartment is one great way to do this. The t-shirts can be themed or just old favorites. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Turtle Town – Applique is used to make this whimsical turtle quilt. Our sample is a pillow, but you can make wither a pillow or quilt in the class. Accent your turtles with the square in square blocks and you have the makings of a fun project. The technique for the square in square block is easy. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Hot Ziggity – Red, black and white make this quilt striking. It is much easier than it looks. What a great accent piece in red, black and white, or any other color combination you choose. You can make it larger or smaller than our sample if you wish. . $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Crazy Quilt Vest – Even if you are not big on making vet, this class will teach you the technique of crazy quilting. Adding your favorite trims and decorative stitches allows you to make something uniquely yours. Make this for yourself or a vest-loving friend. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Flatlock Quilt – Most serger stitches are done along the edge, but the flatlocking stitch creates flat seams. Flatlocking can be used for all types of decorative projects, such as this easy quilt. When the “ladder” side shows, the effect is similar to hand sewing. Combine the beauty of quilting, the speed of the serger, and the fun of this technique and you’ll have a great quilt in no time at all. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

You can make pillowcases for ConKerr Cancer, blankets for Project Linus, pillowcase dresses for Africa, embroider Dr. Cubby on bandanas for the Center for Courageous kids, or any other charity project. We will help you if you need it. There is no charge for this class.

Let’s Get It Done - A project that you need just a little bit of help with is the perfect excuse you need to sign up for this. You get two hours in our classroom. A teacher is available as you need her, but she doesn’t hover or smother you. The charge is only $5.00.

Sit ‘N Sew - If you just need a little space to work on a project, then Sit ‘n’ Sew is for you. Bring your project, and escape from the phone, the kids, and the housework for a couple of hours. Don’t worry, talking is permitted. There’s no charge for the Sit ‘n’ Sew.

Sisters Tote Bag – Call it a tote or a handbag, either way it is a great accessory.  
Just think of all the fabric combinations you might like. Make it fun and funky, sassy, or even conservative. You will be sure to love it. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Shower Curtain with Organizer Pockets – Are bath time toys invading your shower? Here is q quick fix for a small space. Add decorative pockets to the inside or outside of the shower curtain to help clear the clutter in the bath or shower, or to accent your décor.
 $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

MAY CLASSES
Basic Sewing – This is a four-part class to teach basic sewing skills. It is designed for the person who has either never sewn or not sewn for a while and wants to learn from the beginning. You will learn what all those crazy markings on a pattern mean. Sewing hems, gathers, elastic, buttons, buttonholes, and zippers are all included in this class. All you need for this class is a sewing machine in good working order and to know how to thread it, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and other basics of using your machine. If you don’t know how to use your machine, please call us to arrange a class to learn that. If you don’t have a machine, come see us and we can fix you up with a new machine or a reconditioned used one. $60.00 includes the four two-hour classes, some supplies, and instructions.

Precious Little One - This adorable small wall hanging is perfect for the new little addition to your family or to the family of a friend. It can be made in boy colors, girl colors, or neutral like our sample. What a sweet addition to the nursery. Add your own little accents to make it truly unique. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions

Disappearing Nine Patch – The nine patch is a traditional quilt block. By cutting and rotating your nine patch blocks, you get a whole new look. It is one in squares – not a triangle in sight! This quilt can be made by either the beginner or the more experienced quilter. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Double Dutch – The quilt pattern includes two pillow pattern. You have the option of making the wall quilt, or one or both of the pillows. Each pillow is based on the components of the wall quilt. You will probably end up making all of them as they look so nice together. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Quilt Binding – Some quilters are not sure how to add the binding to their quilts. We would love to teach how to do this easy task, including mitering the corners. You can use a quilt you already have ready to bind or just practice on a small quilt sandwich. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Cosmetic Bag – We all have decorative stitches on our machines, but most of us haven’t used them very often. This project will get you to try some of those stitches that you have looked at but not used. Make this bag and get inspired to use these fun stitches. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Cute Summer Top – Here is a project that can be made mostly on the serger or mostly on the sewing machine. If you have never tried a serger but would like to, you may take this class and use one of our sergers. What little girl wouldn’t love this cute summer top! $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

Serger Baby Bib and Burping Pad - Cute and quick baby bibs and burping pads make nice gifts as well as practical items for everyday use. These projects are so simple you can create more than one set. They can be reversible with colorful contrasting fabric on each side. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.

Charity sewing for Kyle’s Quillows – There is no charge for this event. On Saturday May 31st from 10:00 until 4:00, we will be hosting a event for Kyle’s Quillows. You don’t need any sewing experience to help us make quillows for sick children. You don’t even need to sign up However we would like you to let us know if you can so we can be better prepared Come and sew for a little while or as long as you would like. We appreciate your helping us help others. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity.

221 Featherweight service class – You will learn about your machine including how to take it apart and service it in this hands-on class. You will be giving your machine it service and checking the condition of some of its parts. $75.00 includes the 4 hour class, some parts and supplies. There is also a supply list which you will get when you sign up.
Sun., June 8, 12:00-4:00

221 Featherweight accessories demonstration – Refurbishing of the carrying case for your 221 will be demonstrated. Also you will see how to use each of the accessories that come with your featherweight. Come get the tips and tricks for using these feet. Some you probably have no clue as to their use. $50.00 includes the 2 hour class.

Twisted Templates Table Runner – Triangle seem difficult to many novice and intermediate quilters. This quilt with the Twisted Triangle Template take the difficulty factor down a few notches. You have your choice of 6 layouts and of course your choice of fabrics to make this your own style. Why not give it a try with an instructor who has experience with triangles! $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Summer Holiday – Get in the mood for summer while you make this cheery, summery wall hanging. Summer fun is on the way. A wall hanging for the season could brighten up your room. You will learn how to do fusible applique. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Quilt as you go – Would you like to know how to quilt each block as you go instead of putting your blocks together and then quilting? This class is to teach you how to take each quilt block and quilt it and then put them together to get a finished quilt. You will ned four blocks already pieced. /they can be any style and fabric. $30.00 includes the three two-hour classes and instructions.

Lined Tab Curtains – Do it yourself home décor is the “in” thing these days. Some techniques are much easier than they look. This class will teach you how to make an easy, beautiful tab curtain for any room in your living space. The lining adds life to the curtain, and filters out some light giving your more darkening when you want it. $20.00 includes the two two-hour classes and instructions.

1001 Uses Bag – This handy bag can take many forms and have many uses. It is often called a cosmetic bag, but why stop there? By changing size and fabric, you can create bags for knitting needles, crafts, lingerie, shoes, travel accessories, computer/phone accessories, sewing notions, camping utensils, etc. This project can be done with either a sewing machine or a serger. Fat quarters are a great way to start, and create a medium sized bag. $10.00 includes the two-hour class and instructions.
